Apex Group launches compliance solutions and appoints two new corporate solutions heads

RELATED TOPICS

Apex Group (Apex), a global financial services provider, has launched a new Compliance Solutions service and appointed both a Global Head of Capital Markets and Head of UK Listed Funds. The three announcements follow a flurry of activity in the corporate solutions space for Apex over the past few months, including the expansion of subsidiary, Throgmorton, into the US, Switzerland and the Channel Islands. The next evolution for Throgmorton comes through the Group’s decision to deliver a new Compliance Solution to clients via the subsidiary. Throgmorton Compliance Solutions will deliver tailored services including license applications to the FCA, the NFA/CFTC and the SEC, compliance monitoring and management services, company health checks, regulatory audits, outsourced registered compliance and MLRO functions, plus options for board liaison and training.

Throgmorton Compliance Solutions will be run by experienced compliance professional Mel Scotland (formerly Firth). Scotland brings an unrivalled set of experience in compliance and regulation having spent 20 years in the financial services sector. She has extensive experience as both an in-house compliance officer and third-party consultant and has worked with a wide range of firms across a broad range of compliance and regulatory focused solutions.

This move further bolsters Apex Group’s single-source solution, delivering new and complementary services to clients in addition to Throgmorton’s well-established accounting, tax, HR, payroll and company secretarial services.

In addition, the Group announces the appointment of two further senior hires within its Corporate Solutions business. Paul Wilden joined the firm in January from TMF Group to take up the role of Global Head of Capital Markets and Anthony Lee joins to take up the role of Head of UK Listed Funds

The Group’s Capital Markets capabilities were significantly bolstered through the acquisition of Link Asset Services Corporate Services & Private Clients arm in July last year. Reporting to Matt Claxton, Global Head of Corporate Solutions, Wilden was appointed to lead the development of the Group’s offering in the sector; prior to which he spent two years as Global Head of Capital Markets at TMF Group. With close to two decades spent at Standard Chartered Bank, BNY Mellon and Barclays respectively in senior global and regional (APAC and EMEA) roles in the Capital Markets space, Wilden brings with him unrivalled experience in the sector.

In addition to expanding its capital markets team, Apex also announces the appointment of Anthony Lee as Head of UK Listed Funds. Lee has nearly two decades of accounting, operations and governance experience in the listed fund sector; previously holding senior positions at Cavendish Administration and then PraxisIFM Group, the latter at which he led and successfully developed a UK investment trust administration business.

These three simultaneous announcements reinforce the velocity and veracity of the Group’s continued growth plans and the continued drive toward expanding its single-source solution capabilities.

Matt Claxton, Global Head of Corporate Solutions, says: “The corporate solutions businesses within Apex has gone from strength to strength over the last year. The additions of Mel in the newly launched Throgmorton Compliance Solutions business, Paul in the Capital Markets space and Anthony in the UK Listed Funds arena bolster our corporate solutions leadership team and add unrivalled expertise in three core areas. The amount we have achieved since the close of the Link Asset Services deal was almost unimaginable just twelve months ago and I am excited to see what we can do with the addition of these well-established talents helping drive our evolution over the next twelve months.”

Paul Wilden, Global Head of Capital Markets, says: “The commitment to the existing Capital Markets business and the aspiration to grow the same is compelling. Overlay this with the unique value proposition that comes with having our own bank and ability to offer global custody, the Apex Group sets itself apart and has some key differentiators. In addition, the Group’s position as a leading fund service provider with an enviable position in the debt fund space, and strong focus on loan administration, creates further opportunities to become a single source service provider across both businesses. I am particularly excited by the potential and the opportunity to develop and grow the Capital Markets business.”

Anthony Lee, Head of Listed Funds – UK, comments: “Apex is able to provide comprehensive support services to investment trusts and other UK listed funds. I am delighted to be joining as Head of Listed Funds and am looking forward to helping the global Group deliver its extensive service offering to the UK listed fund sector.”

Scotland says: ”The launch of the new compliance solution by Throgmorton to the financial sector firmly establishes it as the leading provider of business services. I am delighted to be joining Throgmorton and the Apex group at this exciting time to help deliver a comprehensive range of compliance services to the financial sector.”
